About Me
Hi, I’m Lou. I am a myco-horticulturist, ethnobotanist, herbalist and artist who was raised on the Lenapewhittuck riverbank. Born to an educator and nurse on Tonkawa and Apache land, I value science education and provide workshops and presentations to students, of all ages (K-12+, college students, and adults), about the power of fungi, as well as the necessary foraging/safety skills. I see citizen science as a final frontier of relational skill development akin to backward time travel to indigenous healing. My main priority is helping you achieve the future you would forage for.
I research novel applications of native North American fungi for textile dyeing. I have collaborated with local businesses, mycologists, mushroom farms, and community nonprofits, food shed, permaculture, & bioremediation projects in the greater New Jersey and NYC area. I invest back into my community with accessible, and engaging science education. From community gatherings to university Mycology Club lectures, my approach has combined self-empowerment, community food sovereignty and technical accuracy. I also speak on ethics, emotional intelligence, communication and relational skills.
